Gameplay The gameplay is quite similar to the original Hydro Thunder, as well as the sequel Hydro Thunder Hurricane, and consists of racing a boat down a racecourse, racing against other boats, completing water-based activities, and completing optional challenges. There are twelve of these water-based activities, with only two of them being the same as Hydro Thunder (the Mini-Racer challenge and the Mammoth challenge). The rest are new, including big hydroplane racing, a hydro-diving challenge, diving down for gold, ice diving, a huge surfing competition, a'slim-down' challenge, the Racer's Revenge, an underwater breakdancing competition, a monkey-wrench challenge, and another underwater football challenge. Each of the nine boats can be customized with different hulls, fins, winches, spoilers, and driver outfits, and has different stats like top speed, overall stats, and a special stat called "Spins". Players can also create their own, which can be done through the Custom Boat feature in the Edit Menu.
